Costly Mistakes That You Will Regret after Buying a Home

Costly MistakesYou have found that dream home in Los Angeles County. You have saved enough money to make the down payment. You already have a pre-approved mortgage. Nothing can possibly go wrong at this stage, can it? Yes, if you rush through the purchase.

Buying a home isn’t much different than marrying your girlfriend. After marriage, you may discover several problems that you missed during the courtship. The same thing can happen to you if you buy a home without conducting a thorough inspection of the property.

Here are a few things you must not ignore in your rush to close the deal.

Don’t ignore the maintenance costs

If you really like the house, you are unlikely to notice its faults. If it is an old home, it may have an ancient heating or cooling system that needs to be replaced. If you don’t account for a replacement in your bid, you are making a big mistake.

Conduct secondary inspections

Most rushed buyers don’t take the time or trouble to conduct secondary inspections. If you make this mistake, you will end up spending a great deal of money on repairs after moving in. Fixing a leaking roof or clogged sewers can be quite costly.

Research the condo project before investing in it

If you are buying into a condo project, you should inspect the HOA documents. You also need to ensure that the building has enough insurance coverage and that there are no pending litigations. You should know if there are any special rules. For example, some associations don’t accept dogs.

Don’t ignore the neighborhood

You might think that you have found that perfect house in Los Angeles County, but if the neighborhood is bad or the amenities are sparse, you will eventually regret your purchase.

So check out the locality. Visit a few homes in the immediate neighborhood of the property. This will give you an opportunity to find out whether the neighbors are cordial. Also check out the restaurants, parks, and grocery stores in the area. Make sure that you have everything you will need before committing to the house.

Calculate the commute

The neighborhood may be good, but if it is a long way from your office, you will have to spend hours to get to work. This is another thing you need to consider.
